Good, solid, economical WWII replica airsoft gun March 9, 2010 Simon Zaleski The AGM MP40 was my first automatic airsoft gun, and I chose it because of its WWII looks, good price, and versatility in the field. This gun is essentially the same as the more expensive "Schmeisser" version, although with that version you might get more trademarks and possibly a more authentic burgundy/brown bakelite color for the plastic bits. Apart from the parts of the gun that historically were non-metal in the real steel version, and the plastic muzzle, everything is metal--body, sights, folding buttstock, and even the magazine that comes with the gun.
This gun has received a ridiculous number of compliments and admiration from young and old alike during airsoft games, and it performs well on the field. Hop-up is easy to adjust, using a little slider hidden inside the (fake) shell-ejection port, which means you can change it in the field without tools. The iron sights are actually very accurate and easy-to-use, which is great since this doesn't come with rails, being a WWII replica weapon. It shoots over 300 fps but under 350 with .02 or .025g BBs, meaning it is great for CQB and small-to-medium field operations, but across long distances the weapon is ineffective. Most airsoft action tends to take place within close ranges, however, so unless you intend to snipe people from 100-200 feet away this weapon is a great choice. Historically, it was developed for closer-range fighting anyway, and it excels at that. It shoots straight and has great battery life with the included 8.4v battery. A 9.6v will fit without modification, although it will be tight, and the rate of fire markedly increases. The gun does have a (historically inaccurate) fire selector, but I keep it on full auto all the time (which is how the original worked) because it is possible to squeeze off one round at a time on full auto if you have a trained trigger finger...again, just like with the original. There is no safety, just a subtle on/off switch on the bottom of the pistol grip. The overall construction of the gun is pretty good...it's not a $400 gun, but it's pretty darn good and very reliable.
In terms of accessories, I own and recommend the following: a replica leather sling (find it on ebay or something for $20), replica MP40 ammo pouches (I think they were $25?), and consider buying some mid-cap magazines. I got a box of 5 made by King Arms from [...], and they are more cheaply-made than the AGM metal lowcaps but they hold 110 rounds. In practice, I believe they may actually be able to fit up to 200, but I haven't counted.
In sum, then, this is a great medium-cost SMG that is accurate, looks good, is very satisfying for WWII buffs or Call of Duty fans, will get you lots of attention on the field, and will serve you well and reliably.
Very good airsoft gun, worth the price March 5, 2010 Buster (CA USA) I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this thing but I was very impressed. Very sturdy mostly all metal frame, feels very real and a blast to shoot. The low cap magazine is a bit of an inconvenience but if you're that desperate for it I think they sell highcap magazines for this. One thing I did not like about this gun was the battery it comes with. It's very low powered, does not do the gun justice. I switched its low 1.2 volt out for 8.4 volt battery that came with an airsoft thompson I got and it made all the difference. Shreds through everything now. Be careful with not firing for an extended period of time with a bigger battery though, might damage the gears. Take burst shots here and there and its perfectly safe for the gun.
Great item for the price February 28, 2010 BLL Very pleased with my AGM MP-40. Nice rof, sturdy, and has some weight to it. Like it so much I just bought a second one. If you like WW2 airsoft, this is a great one to get.
AGM MP40 December 21, 2009 Mr. C. (Minnesota USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The AGM MP40 is an OK gun at best. While It does have some good points I think the bad one may out weigh the good. First the good. It is an ALL metal gun except for the plastic sides and grip which were Bakelite on the original. It has a good solid feel and is nicely balanced. It shoots straight and hard (I hit a friend in the nose and a BB cut him, yes we do wear eye protection when we play). And it just plain looks cool.
Now for the bad. The magazines only hold 50 - 55 rounds and there is no high cap one available because the mag is too narrow. The motor is a little weak. The gears will strip the teeth on the piston rather quickly. And the gearbox will periodically just stop working (this seems to be a problem with the design of the selector system for if you take the gearbox apart and remove the selector stuff it works fine, the only thing is you only have full auto which is the way it should have been to start with as the real one only had full auto}.
Because of the problems I would not recommend this gun to a novice airsofter. But if you like the gun AND don't mind having to dink around with it to keep it working AND have a backup gun to use while your out in the field, Then by all means buy this gun.
Worthless September 12, 2009 rob gunn 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This gun looks cool and worked great....for about 4 weeks. Then totally died. Battery is fine, but the gun won't work at all-apparantly some electrical problem. AGM has no contact info, is some company in China which you cannot contact-no service, no parts. It is now only a silent toy-certainly not worth what I paid for it. And whatever you do, do not buy it from AirsoftMegastore-they only offered an 11 day warranty and was no help at all.
