1 out of 5 stars NO WAY TODAY !   August 20, 2008
I did not own this (so called gun ) for more than a few hours before I had cuts on my hands from the poor finish. The weight is perfect for a long throw in the Dump ! Within that few hours the pumping got easier and the trigger would pull all the way with no effort. The problem was you did not know how many times you had to pull the trigger before it would fire. ( a big safety item ) Just Junk this ITEM and get your money back Better yet do not buy in the first place, it will cost you to ship it both ways. Not quite fare to anyone............

I shot this about 40 times before it crapped out....I didn't even have it 24 hours! Gave it a whole star only because there is no lower rating. Stay away from this one!

5 out of 5 stars Wow!   July 20, 2007

I own two other airgun pistols that are under 65.00 ea and by far this gun is the best in ALL aspects! The Baikal 53 was a terrible dissapointment to me (in every way), the crosman 1088 is so cheaply made and lacked so much power that I cant wat to shoot up the air cartidges and ebay the gun!
This Beeman P-17 single action pump delivers FAR more power than BOTH of the guns I just mentioned and the accuracy is far superior. Althought the main body is plastic, it is VERY sturdy. without the cheap thin pieces that the 1088 has, the Beeman feels like it is built thick and heavy (comfortably so) and would probably still fire if I dropped it off my 35 foot high deck in the backyard! I does NOT have that "plastic" look or feel that most low cost airguns have
I want to add that it is the MOST difficult air gun to load a pellet into (of any I have ever shot!) and I own 11 air guns and have fired many more! I cant help but wonder what they were thinking when they engineered it! It IS possible just dificult and time consuming. (I can fire the Baikal-53 two or thre times in the same amount of time it take to load and fire this gun once) If your fingers arnt extremely agile, like my fathers, who is a young 67 and loves to shoot with me, you DEFINITLY should look at this gun before buying it and try it out. THAT IS THE HARD TO FIND ADVICE ABOUT THIS GUN. Also it is reguires a VERY strong arm to cock, and you will read that in many reviews. (my dad barley does it... but he can with some complaints) I am amazed that I havent read ANYTHING about the dificulty of loading however, which really is no problem for me, but is for those that I shoot with.
This gun fires like a much more expensive airgun. I love it, and am going to buy a second one. The down points I mentioned really arnt down points to me I just want to be helpful for those that want to read a review about the gun, besides in my opinion the extra strength required and the "chamber" entrance location are small prices to pay for the superior perfomance of this airgun. Take at least some of this advice from somone who just bought three different air pistols in this price range this month.
Have fun and ALWAYS be safe when using ANY type of gun!

4 out of 5 stars Good pistol, though it's not perfect   May 12, 2007

I've purchased this pistol after doing some study and people rated it as a very precise and quiet one. In general, I'm not disappointed with my choice. The pistol is heavy, though the center of mass is a bit too high because the body is made of plastic and all metal parts are in its upper part. One thing that bothered me was the sharp plastic edge near the rear sight. When one closes the upper lid (and believe me, it requires some effort since we want to get 410fps out of single stroke) this edge is a pain in .. the left palm.
Fortunately, the plastic can be easily cut. Another problem is a loose metal rod that fixes the upper lid in "down" position. It tends to move to the left after some number of shots. I had to pull it out, scratch the ends and apply a couple of SuperGlue drops to fix it permanently on its place.
The good news is that the pistol serves its main purpose - shoot sharp :)
